The Sacramento Community Research Project is a collaborative project between the Community Development program at UC Davis and Alchemist CDC. The Project focuses on bringing University support and expertise to the Sacramento Region.
In Spring, 2005, Professor Ted Bradshaw, of the Community Development Graduate Group, led his undergraduate class in developing a comprehensive plan for economic development in Alkali Flat and adjacent neighborhoods. This was the first study by the Sacramento Community Research Project, a joint effort between the Community Development program at UC Davis and Alchemist CDC.
On April 12, nearly 60 students of the class went on a guided tour of the Alkali Flat neighborhood. Some of the highlights were the Globe Mills Building, the 12th Street Corridor, La Valentina Light Rail station, and some of the local historical residential buildings. We are thrilled with the reception by Neighborhood Services, SHRA, the Alkali Flat/Mansion Flat Neighborhood association and neighborhood residents.
NEW!! On June 16, Dr. Ted Bradshaw, accompanied by students, presented their research to a group of city employees, highlighting the community assets of the Alkali Flat neighborhood, retail opportunities, entrepreneur incubation, and the opportunity of developing recycling centers.
The final report will be made available to the City of Sacramento, and posted on the UCD Community Development webpage. Alchemist’s report on Alkali Flat will take into account the excellent work of students.
